How they incorporate what they learned in the CHESS Surgical Ethics Fellowship into their daily role

“Ethics has a role in every walk and profession of life. Adopting the basic concepts and principles of nonmaleficence and autonomy, along with learning to apply and balance the virtue, deontological, and utilitarian ethics generally helps find an ethical path forward.”

What CHESS fellowship session held the biggest impact

“The session on organ transplant, and ensuing discussion about “The Definition of Death” was very interesting to me. It invoked thoughts about the elusive nature of the definition of death, and correspondingly that of “life” itself. Being an avid follower of basic/ general science, I have been interested in those basic and age-old concepts, especially the definition of “life”. In the current polarized environment, an understanding of those concepts might help dissolve many tensions amongst the general population.”
